Olympou Str

The apartment is located in a densely populated neighborhood of the historic center of Thessaloniki. We were asked to redesign the apartment according to the new needs of the owner. The main architectural concept was to enforce the  relationship between the new and the old. We aimed to add new, up to date elements, but still maintain the 60s style of the apartment and to create a dialogue between these two eras. The basic synthetic gesture was the development of an axis that separates and distinguishes the private areas from the public ones and creates a central, circular piece -a “roundabout”- that connects a series of spaces allowing different scenarios in the everyday function of the apartment. Τhis new axis, is not only just an imaginary line in the plans, but a peculiar existing boundary: a boundary closed or perforated, a fully see-through boundary if needed, or semi-transparent in cases. All the additions were custom made to meet the needs of the owner.
